The minister, Jose Blanco, declared yesterday that the Government of Spain will not adopt new measures of safety in the airports, as the implantation of corporal scanners, until  does not reach an agreement in the European Union.

According to the Minister, the Government is studying how to improve the safety in the airports but, “making easier the life to the passengers” with new technologies. In these moments there are weighed new measures that are compatible with the “freedom and intimacy of the people”.

Anyway, something is changing into the Spanish airports, the measures for the passengers who travel to The United States, they will have to pass for strong controls.

About the European Commission thinks about this, it is necessary to remark that the CE believes that the corporal scanner is useful but wants to study questions related to the respect of the privacy and the protection of the health on having used it. Concretly, one of the principal community voices, Barbara Helfferich, affirms that the corporal scanners must expire with the standards of health or otherwise they would go in opposition to the national and European laws.

The opposition  for, the above mentioned scanners has not made wait. The Spanish Association of Users, Businessmen and Professionals of the Air Transport (ASETRA) have asked the Government not to install corporal scanners if the fundamental rights of the passengers are not guaranteed.

In addition to this, the president of the ASETRA, Ignacio Rubio, has requested the creation of an experts’ committee in national safety to analyze  the safety systems to adopting and the respecting to the fundamental rights of the passengers, both for the air transport and for the railway or the sea transport .

We want to remain that this type of scanner provides a silhouette very detailed of the body of the passenger, like if was naked, for what ASETRA proposes that before installing upgrades being the own machine the one that visualizes the first images. This way, only in case some passenger was not overcoming the filtration of the machine, it might proceed to be checked.

ESPAÑA NO IMPLANTARA LOS ESCANNERS CORPORALES EN LOS AEROPUERTOS SI NO HAY EL ACUERDO CON LA UNION EUROPEA

El ministro de Fomento, José Blanco, declaró ayer que el Gobierno no adoptará nuevas medidas de seguridad en los aeropuertos, como la implantación de escáneres corporales, hasta que no se llegue a un acuerdo en la Unión Europea.

Según el Ministro, el Gobierno está estudiando cómo mejorar la seguridad en los aeropuertos pero, “facilitándoles la vida a los pasajeros” con nuevas tecnologías. En estos momentos se sopesan nuevas medidas que sean compatibles con la “libertad e intimidad de las personas”.

No obstante, sí que ha cambiado algo en los aeropuertos españoles, las medidas para los pasajeros que viajen a Estados Unidos ya que tendrán que pasar por mayores controles.

Respecto a lo que la Comisión Europea piensa sobre este asunto, cabe subrayar que la CE cree que el escáner corporal es útil pero quiere estudiar cuestiones relacionadas con el respeto de la privacidad y la protección de la salud al utilizarlo. Concretamente, la portavoz comunitaria, Bárbara Helfferich, afirma que los escáneres corporales deben cumplir con los estándares de salud o de lo contrario irían en contra de las leyes nacionales y europeas.
La oposición a dichos escáneres no se ha hecho esperar. La Asociación Española de Usuarios, Empresarios y Profesionales del Transporte Aéreo (ASETRA), ha pedido al Gobierno que no instale escáneres corporales si no se garantizan los derechos fundamentales de los pasajeros.

Es más el presidente de la ASETRA, Ignacio Rubio, ha solicitado la creación de un comité de expertos en seguridad nacional que analice caso por caso los sistemas de seguridad a adoptar y el respeto a los derechos fundamentales de los pasajeros, tanto para el transporte aéreo como para el ferroviario o el marítimo.

Recordamos que este tipo de escáner proporciona una silueta muy detallada del cuerpo del pasajero, como si estuviera desnudo, por lo que  ASETRA propone que antes de instalarlos se introduzcan mejoras para que sea la propia máquina la que visualice las imágenes y haga un primer filtrado. Así, tan sólo en el caso de que algún pasajero no superara el filtraje de la máquina, se podría proceder a un registro y cacheo pormenorizado, de forma privada.
